Novi Set to Celebrate Women Veterans at Annual Conference

As the fall season approaches, Novi, Michigan, is gearing up for a heartwarming gathering dedicated to the brave women who have served our nation. The third annual Women Veterans Conference will take place from October 3 to 5 at the Four Points by Sheraton Detroit, located at 27000 S. Karevich Drive. This year’s event is expected to be a vibrant celebration, honoring not only those who have served but also those currently serving and everyone who supports women veterans throughout the state.

A Time to Celebrate and Advocate

The conference promises to be a mix of insightful speakers, interactive activities, and opportunities to advocate for women veterans. Attending this gathering provides a chance to connect with fellow veterans and supporters, making it a valuable experience for everyone involved. Admission for women veterans is set at $30. To ensure the success of this event, sponsorships and donations are welcomed and appreciated. For more details or to register, you can check out the official registration site.

Helping Homeless Veterans

In addition to exciting conferences, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) is actively seeking applications from nonprofit organizations for the Fiscal Year 2025 Michigan Veteran Homelessness Prevention Grant. With up to $2.5 million available, this funding aims to help Michigan-based nonprofits that support service members, veterans, and their families facing homelessness. Grants can go up to $250,000 each, providing much-needed assistance for programs aimed at finding sustainable housing solutions for veterans in distress.

Supporting Those in Need

The funds will target initiatives that not only offer immediate relief but also create long-term solutions. This might include temporary housing options, renovation projects for affordable units, and programs incentivizing landlords to accommodate veterans. If your organization is interested in applying, make sure to send a Letter of Intent to MVAAGrants@michigan.gov by September 19, with final applications due by September 30. A video informational meeting about the grants is scheduled for September 23, making it a great opportunity to learn more about this vital funding.

Upcoming Events for Veterans

Moreover, the community is buzzing with various events aimed at uniting and entertaining veterans. Holly American Legion Post 149 is hosting a Line Dancing Class on September 23 and an exciting Holly Dancing Witches event on September 26. For those interested in games, Oxford American Legion Post 108 will have a fun-filled Euchre night, followed by multiple themed buffet nights throughout the week.

If bingo is more your forte, head over to Clarkston American Legion Post 377 for a lively bingo night or check out Royal Oak American Legion Post 253 for an Oktoberfest celebration filled with food, music, and raffles. These friendly gatherings are all about community and support for the brave men and women who have worn the uniform.

Forum for Women Veterans in Holly

Lastly, on September 28, the Holly Area Veterans Resource Center will host a Forum for Women Veterans, featuring a complimentary luncheon and an engaging program filled with speakers and panel discussions. This event is open to all female veterans, providing a wonderful platform for networking and sharing experiences.

As we move into a season of gratitude and reflection, the community events in Michigan highlight the importance of supporting our veterans. Whether through celebrating their service at the conference, aiding those in need through grant funding, or enjoying recreational activities, there’s something for everyone to participate in. Let’s come together to honor and support our heroes!
