There’s something special brewing at Lenoir Community College, as the WIOA Youth Program participants shine bright with their academic achievements. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program is designed to provide support for young individuals aged between 16 and 24, helping them gain essential skills and opportunities for career success. And by the looks of it, these young stars are soaring to new heights!

Finding a Career Advisor

As part of this bustling program, Lenoir Community College is currently looking for a new WIOA Career Advisor. This position comes with a competitive salary of $33,000 to $38,000 annually. A Career Advisor’s role is crucial as they are responsible for managing cases, recruiting participants, conducting assessments, and facilitating training and placement for eligible customers.

To apply for this role, candidates need to have a Bachelor’s degree in areas like human services, human resource management, psychology, business, or social work. If you have equivalent education or experience, that may also work. Bonus points go to those who are proficient in multiple languages! One must also possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license. The working conditions include typical office tasks, light lifting, and some evening and weekend hours along with occasional travel between campuses.

Essential responsibilities include ensuring program compliance, managing workforce development activities, and offering stellar customer care. The individual will also conduct assessments and develop personalized Individual Education/Employment Plans, not to mention some outreach through social media platforms to connect with potential participants.

Among the proud participants are Alejandro Gonzalez Bautista from Albertson and Savannah Boseman from Goldsboro, both of whom have earned a spot on the President’s List by maintaining an impressive 4.0 GPA while enrolled in their Criminal Justice degree program.

Alejandro’s journey has been remarkable. He completed his Adult High School Diploma before enrolling and is now eyeing a future in Intellectual Property Law. Meanwhile, Savannah is not just a student but also the President of LCC’s Student Government Association! She’s on track to graduate this May, aiming to work with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation—talk about ambition!

But they’re not alone in this gallant academic adventure. Andrea Mullens Scott is making waves in Graphic Arts & Imaging Technology with a commendable 3.5 GPA. Similarly, Edward Miranda-Perez, currently enrolled in Engineering, is matching that score with a 3.5 GPA of his own. And let’s not overlook Michael Anderson, who, despite being a part-time student, has managed to maintain an impressive 4.0 GPA while pursuing an associate degree in Criminal Justice.
