Waterford Man Charged with Multiple Felonies in Disturbing Human Trafficking Case

Waterford Man Faces Serious Charges in Human Trafficking Case

Waterford, MI – A shocking case has emerged from this quiet corner of Metro Detroit, where a local man has been charged with multiple felonies related to human trafficking. Quincy Lamar Bland, 43, is currently facing seven felony charges, and it’s raising serious alarms about the hidden dangers lurking within our communities.

What Are the Charges?

Bland’s list of accusations is alarming. He is charged with two counts of engaging in a human trafficking enterprise, which resulted in injury and commercial sexual activity. In addition, he faces two counts of transporting a person for the purposes of prostitution and another two counts of accepting earnings from prostitution. To top it all off, he has one count related to the delivery or manufacture of less than 50 grams of a controlled substance.

On top of the felonies, police also slapped two misdemeanor counts of assault or assault and battery on him, rounding out a list of charges that would send shivers down anyone’s spine.

How Did This Unfold?

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has reported that Bland used violence and intimidation to control the two women who were trafficked out of hotels and motels in Waterford and other areas in Metro Detroit. Reports suggest Bland kept the women awake for days at a time by giving them crack cocaine. This tactic of drug dependency is just one of the many horrific strategies human traffickers employ.

A Difficult Situation for Victims

Human trafficking is a dark underbelly of society, often hidden away and not easily spotted by the average person. According to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, “Human traffickers operate in the shadows, exploiting vulnerable victims. They control them through violence and threats, and, as we’ve seen in this case, drugs.”

She went on to say that the cases we’re seeing now are just the “tip of the iceberg.” It paints a grim picture of a much larger problem that requires both public awareness and a coordinated response.

Law Enforcement’s Response

Bland was arrested on November 26. During his arrest, authorities not only found drugs but additional items that raise serious questions about his operations. Police seized multiple cellphones, two scales, and a significant amount of cash from Bland’s bedroom, indicating the high-stakes nature of his illicit activities.

Following his arrest, Bland was arraigned the very next day on November 27, where he was issued a whopping $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to return for a probable cause conference on December 10. The wheels of justice are certainly turning, but the case sheds light on a much darker issue that continues to plague many communities.

Similar Cases on the Rise

This incident isn’t isolated. Just last month, on November 22, another man from Wyoming, Michigan, named Prenentice Orr, was charged with three felonies for similar reasons after a victim reported being trafficked out of Southfield. It’s becoming all too clear that human trafficking is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed.

Looking Ahead

With the help of trained law enforcement agencies, the hope is to bring more awareness and even more cases to light. Prosecutor McDonald has made it clear that her office will continue collaborating with local police to combat this serious issue. “There is so much work to be done, and we’re committed to preventing and fighting human trafficking throughout Michigan,” she stated.

Human trafficking remains a complex issue, but with increased coordination and awareness, perhaps we can start to turn the tide. Keep an eye on this evolving story as it unfolds and remember: everyone has a part to play in combating this major social issue.
