Child Exits Home Unnoticed

Allen Township in Michigan was faced with a tragic accident last week when a two-year-old girl was hit by a car, following her escape from home after being put to bed. The incident took place on September 13, around 8:20 p.m. Michigan State Police are currently investigating matters related to the incident.

The Incident

Troopers responded to a call about a “Car vs Pedestrian Traffic Crash” and rushed to the scene to find a two-year-old female toddler lying in the road. The girl was immediately taken to Hillsdale Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. As troubling as it is to discern, her parents revealed that the child had exited their house after being put to bed.

The family had been performing household chores while the child managed to slip out unnoticed. She walked onto Chicago Street, where she was struck by a 2012 VW Jetta driven by a 38-year-old male from Allen, Michigan.

No Drugs or Alcohol Involved

The tragic incident did not appear to involve any alcohol or drugs. To ensure this, however, an autopsy has been undertaken, following which more information will be available. As of now, the State Police have revealed that there is no new information about the incident apart from what is already known.

Appalling Accident Raises Questions

The incredibly sad event has people questioning child safety measures in homes. While the investigation is still underway, parents are being reminded of the importance of childproofing their homes, and ensuring their kid’s safety at all times.

The Need for Child Safety Measures

Simple and effective measures like installing safety gates, childproofing doors and windows, and continuous supervision can go a long way in preventing such unfortunate incidents. It is especially important to ensure child safety during the night when it might be harder to keep track of their movements.
