A Heartfelt Journey Begins

Judith was born on January 1, 1943, in Coshocton, Ohio, to proud parents Glenn W. and Ruth Elizabeth (Schroder) Stelzner. Growing up in a loving household, she was immersed in the caring values instilled in her through the Presbyterian Church, where she actively participated during her formative years. Judith excelled academically, graduating as the Valedictorian from Coshocton High School in 1961, paving her way for a bright future.

An Education Built on Compassion

Her pursuit of education led her to Ohio University, after which she transferred to The Ohio State University to focus on her lifelong passion for nursing. In 1966, Judith completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and later earned a Master’s Degree from Wayne State University in 1977. Over a remarkable 50-year career, Judith dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nursing, retiring on her 50th work anniversary. She touched countless lives, showcasing a selfless commitment to patient care.

A Melodic Passion

Aside from her medical career, Judith found great joy in music. Though she played the trombone throughout her life, her musical journey took a new turn in her 50s when she began taking string bass lessons. Her dedication and talent led her to perform with various orchestras and string ensembles, adding another layer to her vibrant life. Judith was also a member of a Civil War Band, playing the tenor saxhorn for over 30 years, demonstrating her commitment to musical history as well as her love for performance.

Family, Love, and Legacy

In her personal life, Judith married the love of her life, Douglas Russell MacQueen, on December 19, 1965, in Coshocton, Ohio. Together, they built a family that Judith cherished deeply. She is survived by her loving daughters, Carole (Daniel) MacQueen-Rossi from Dexter Township and Cathryn (Daniel) Skedel from North Carolina, as well as three beloved grandchildren: Madeleine Armstrong, Camryn Rossi, and Catarina Rossi. Judith is also remembered fondly by her nieces, Marty Schenk and Barrie Ensor, and her nephew, Bert MacQueen.

Though Judith faced loss in her life, including the death of her husband Douglas in 2013, and the passing of her son, Glenn Russell MacQueen, her spirit and resilience shone brightly, encouraging those around her to cherish family and community.

Memorial Service and Lasting Contributions

To honor her remarkable life, a memorial service is set to take place at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church on March 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Joy Barret officiating the service. Friends and family are invited to share in the celebration of her life from 9 to 11:15 a.m. prior to the service at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Judith will be laid to rest at West Lawn Cemetery in Newcomerstown, Ohio.

Through her dedication to nursing and music, Judith Ann MacQueen will forever be remembered as a beloved figure whose impact will continue to inspire future generations.
