Southfield Seeks Info on Highway Shooting

Hey there, folks! Let’s talk about something serious that happened over the weekend here in Southfield. The State police are on the lookout for any info about a shooting that happened on Interstate 696, near Evergreen Road.

On Saturday morning, around 10:20 a.m, the troopers got a call about some gunfire on the east-bound I-696. The caller, a 64-year-old guy from our very own Southfield, reported some dude in a black SUV shot at him as he was driving between Evergreen and Southfield roads. Police are thinking this could have all started because of some road rage.

Here’s what went down according to the senior Southfield man. He said there was a lady passenger in the SUV who chucked a blue water bottle towards his vehicle before the gunshots. As soon as the police got there, the SUV was gone. Apparently, it exited the freeway at Coolidge Avenue and our man lost track of it.

Our troopers did a once over on the guy’s Ford F-250 Super Duty and found a single bullet hole in the back door on the passenger side. The police got the bullet from the door. Thankfully, our man wasn’t hurt.

The freeway had to be shut down for a while so the troopers could comb the area for any evidence. They’re still working on finding out what exactly happened.

If you got any information about the black SUV, the shooter, or anything related to the incident, you can help! Just give the State police a ring at 1-855-MICH-TIP or talk to Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP to share what you know. Every bit of info helps keep our community safe, y’all!
