Sponsor Our ArticlesSouth Lyon, known for its charming small-town vibes, which make the town’s achievements just a bit sweeter. This time it’s the teen dance sensation Cameron Janson, who’s making big waves in the national dance circuit. The South Lyon High School senior bagged not one, but two remarkable wins at national dance competitions this summer, firmly establishing himself as an emerging dance star across the country.
Cameron’s first big win this summer came when he was crowned the Senior Dancer of the Year at a well-regarded dance competition in Orlando. The achievement is quite significant considering the event’s long-standing prestige and the high caliber of talent it attracts.
Not content with resting on his laurels, Cameron went on to score another victory, this time at the New York City Dance Alliance competition in Phoenix, where he took home the Senior Outstanding Dancer honor. Cameron’s achievements not only underscore his extraordinary talent but also his resilience and commitment to dancing.
The journey to this point has been far from easy for the 17-year-old, who first discovered his passion for dancing at just five years old. “I started dancing thanks to my sister. Mum signed us up at a local dance studio because of a deal they had, and while my sister moved on from dancing, I fell in love with it,” Cameron shared.
Despite the joy and fulfillment it brings him, dancing has come with its challenges for Cameron, especially considering the stereotypical attitudes towards male dancers. He’s faced bullying and judgment, but he chose to stay strong and take it in stride. “I’ve learned not to let others’ opinions define me”, Cameron stated resiliently.
Besides his impressive contest wins, Cameron is also taking his dance success to new horizons as a brand ambassador for a top dancewear company. This opportunity allows him to help reshape the aesthetics and attitudes towards male dancewear in the industry.
Cameron stays grounded despite his recent success and aims to inspire others, especially young boys navigating a similar path. His journey continues to pave the way for young aspiring dancers and his influence resonates well beyond his hometown, with his Instagram account witnessing a surge in followers who are eagerly anticipating the next steps in this young talent’s impressive dance career.
Regardless of where future takes him – be it a big university, dance conservatory, or even moving to a city known for its vibrant dance scene – one thing is for sure, Cameron will keep dancing and winning hearts one step at a time.
