South Lyon’s Annual Pumpkinfest Welcomes Fall with Excitement

If you’re in or around South Lyon this weekend, get ready to kick off the fall season with some serious fun at the highly anticipated Pumpkinfest! This year’s theme, “Rock Around a Pumpkin,” promises to bring a lively and festive atmosphere, perfect for celebrating the arrival of autumn.

Parade, Run, and Festivities to Kick Things Off

The festivities will officially begin with an exhilarating parade and run. Expect a big turnout, as the Pumpkinfest President, Kathy Swan, shares that they anticipate around 1,500 people joining in the parade, which will feature 48 floats. It’s a fantastic opportunity to join your community and wave at neighbors while ringing in a beloved seasonal celebration.

Fun for Everyone!

There’s something for everyone at Pumpkinfest! Attendees can enjoy a diverse array of downtown booths and vendors showcasing local goods. Looking for some friendly competition? This year’s line-up includes a chili cook-off, a thrilling pie-eating contest, and an exciting pie-baking contest. Plus, Pokémon fans will love the Pokémon Capture event, where trainers can test their skills.

Dog Jumping Fun Returns

After a few years of absence, the crowd-favorite Dock Dogs are making their grand return! Watch as your furry friends leap into action, jumping into a massive pool to see who can make the longest jump. “You can bring your dog out and have them compete with the big pool,” Swan shared, encouraging pet owners to join in the fun.

Scarecrow Contest and Local Business Support

One of the best parts about events like Pumpkinfest is that they bring the community together. Local businesses have been busy creating stunning scarecrows that are popping up around town. This weekend, the annual scarecrow contest will take place, judged by festival attendees. Be sure to check them out while exploring the event!

Plus, while you’re wandering through the festivities, don’t forget to stop by local shops and restaurants. They’ll be open and waiting for you to support them in any way you can. It’s a perfect chance to grab some snacks, do a little shopping, and enjoy the local flavors.

Tasty Treats Galore

Speaking of food, get excited! Alongside local restaurants, festival-goers can indulge in classic fair favorites available at various booths, including funnel cakes, corn dogs, and much more. There’s no shortage of delicious eats to keep you energized throughout the weekend.

Parking and Road Closures

As with any big festival, there will be some road closures to keep everyone safe and the event running smoothly. Starting at noon on Friday, Lafayette Street (Pontiac Trail) will be closed between Liberty and Whipple Streets, and Lake Street (10 Mile Road) will be closed between Wells and Washington Streets. So plan your route accordingly and give yourself a little extra time to explore.

Mark Your Calendar

Pumpkinfest will be in full swing from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Be sure to gather your friends and family, dress up for the fun, and make your way down for what promises to be an unforgettable celebration of fall! South Lyon is ready to welcome everyone with open arms — so let’s rock around those pumpkins!
