In the vibrant city of East Lansing, Michigan, the atmosphere is buzzing with enthusiasm as the Michigan State volleyball team welcomes a new addition to its roster! Head coach Kristen Kelsay has announced that the talented Sarah Vellucci will be joining the Spartans, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. This exciting news comes just in time for the upcoming season, adding an extra layer of strength to an already formidable team.
Sarah Vellucci, hailing from the picturesque town of Novi, Michigan, is stepping up as a libero and will enter the Spartans as a rising redshirt sophomore. Vellucci brings with her a wealth of experience from her time at Long Beach State (CSULB), where she truly made a name for herself. In fact, she participated in all 108 sets during her time at CSULB, which is quite the feat!
During her redshirt freshman season, Sarah proved to be quite the defensive powerhouse, amassing an impressive 103 digs. Her role was instrumental, especially as she was part of a two-libero system at CSULB, where she excelled in handling the pressure. She was responsible for a remarkable 549 serves in serve receive, highlighting her reliability and skill on the court.
Sarah’s talents also earned her significant recognition as she was named a two-time All-State selection during her high school career. She received first-team All-State honors during her senior year and second-team All-State recognition in her junior year, establishing her as a top player in Michigan. On top of all that, in 2022, she was a key player for the Legacy Volleyball Club, helping the team clinch the AAU 17 Open National Championship. Her outstanding performance during the championship earned her All-American status, further solidifying her reputation as a rising star.
Stay tuned as we watch Sarah Vellucci make her mark and contribute to a thrilling season ahead!
