Saginaw Street Consignments Embraces Digital Transformation in Pontiac

Saginaw Street Consignments Gets a Digital Boost in Pontiac

Pontiac, MI – In the heart of Pontiac, Saginaw Street Consignments is gearing up for a new chapter. Owner April Ogg is on a mission not just to keep her doors open, but to thrive in a changing retail landscape. With determination and a keen eye, she’s been steadily working to enhance her business through essential digital upgrades.

Spotting Opportunities

April has long been an active participant in her local community, collaborating with organizations like Oakland County Main Street. During her quest for growth, she stumbled upon a golden opportunity—the Digital Technology Grant from the Michigan State Federal Credit Union. “I’m always looking at the different programs that they have, whether it’s a seminar or online Zoom,” she shared. “And then I saw this grant for technology support, which was perfect for me.”

The grant is aimed at helping small businesses tackle various digital needs with awards of up to $2,500. These funds can be used for a wide range of projects, including essential upgrades like website creation, e-commerce support, and digital marketing.

A Setback Sparks a Comeback

Earlier this year, April faced a significant challenge when the company behind her online consignment program—which handled everything for her brick-and-mortar store—announced it was closing down. This news was a tough pill to swallow, especially after the struggles so many small businesses went through during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I realized I had to pivot quickly,” April recalled.

Motivated by the need for a new solution, she applied for the grant, carefully outlining her plans for leveraging digital tools to get her business back on track. “I wanted to hire a program engineer to help create a new website and set up my Shopify store,” she explained. She also aimed to collaborate with a social media marketing company to enhance her online presence.

Grant Success and Future Plans

April’s application paid off; she was one of just eight grant recipients in Oakland County and the only one from Pontiac. While she had initially requested $5,000, she was awarded the full $2,500 she needed. “It’s nice to have the extra help… every little bit helps,” she said with a smile. This funding will allow her to establish her Shopify store and revamp her website as she gears up for online sales.

Additionally, April is excited about utilizing the Shop OC Main Streets online platform, which will seamlessly integrate with her Shopify account. Once everything is set up, she plans to work with Walker Publicity, a local marketing firm, to manage her social media strategy. “We’ll start modestly and build as the business grows,” she added optimistically.

A Treasure Trove Awaits

Located at 150 N. Saginaw Street in Downtown Pontiac, Saginaw Street Consignments is more than just a store; it’s a treasure trove filled with antiques, fine china, art, furniture, and various decorative accessories. April’s 35 years of experience in interior design add a personal touch to her shop, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to spruce up their home with unique finds.

Exciting Changes Ahead

As April moves forward with her digital transformation, she invites everyone to stay tuned for her new website launch and to explore her offerings online via the Main Streets platform. “I’m looking to create a vibrant online presence that mirrors the charm of my store,” she explained.

It’s clear that Saginaw Street Consignments is not just weathering the storm but steering ahead into an exciting future. With her dedication and the support of the Digital Technology Grant, April Ogg is all set to welcome even more customers to experience the magic of her consignments—both in-store and online.
