In an unexpected revelation that answers a longstanding question of a decade-old mystery, it was disclosed that a dead bear cub found under mysterious circumstances in New York City’s Central Park was placed there by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Kennedy, appearing on a social media video with actress Roseanne Barr on Sunday openly admitted his involvement in the strange incident. According to him, he was heading towards falconery in the Hudson Valley in New York in 2014 when a van ahead of him struck and killed the bear. Having picked up the now-deceased mammal, Kennedy planned on skinning the creature for meat storage. However, a late dinner meeting back in New York City caused his plan to go awry and prompted an idea to stage the bear’s death in Central Park, making it appear as if a cyclist had caused the fatality.
“This was the little bit of redneck in me” , Kennedy confessed in the video conversation. “We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it, or something”, He further quoted. He admitted to having been amused when the news created headlines on every television station and printed media outlets.
At the time, the local authorities had intended on taking the bicycle to Albany, New York, for fingerprinting. Since Kennedy had touched the bicycle, this could have potentially implicated him. “Luckily, the story died down after a while and it stayed dead for a decade,” Kennedy reflected on the incident.
Kennedy has stated that the reason for his sudden confession was to pre-empt a potential “bad story” by a publication that had become aware of the incident. He tagged the particular publication and shared the video with a caption expressing his anticipation of their coverage on this revelation.
In an interesting turn of events, it has been revealed that the person responsible for the initial report on the bear’s mysterious death for a leading daily was Tatiana Schlossberg, Kennedy’s second cousin, and the daughter of Caroline Kennedy. As per Schlossberg’s report, New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation had found the bear’s cause of death to be consistent with blunt force injuries typically inflicted by a motor vehicle collision.
Upon hearing of Kennedy’s admission, Schlossberg, who was as unaware of the circumstances as law enforcement were at the time she reported on the incident, responded to these recent developments by stating, “Like law enforcement, I had no idea who was responsible for this when I wrote the story.”
