Sponsor Our ArticlesThis summer, the usually tranquil Holy Family Parish in Novi is bustling with activity. The church serves as the organizational hub for a group of young interns serving with Protect Life Michigan, a pro-life advocacy group.
From May until August, 22 interns traversed local neighborhoods, promoting conversation and awareness about the injustices of abortion. With a sympathetic ear and prayerful demeanor, these young advocates aimed to effect change in hearts and minds.
Protect Life Michigan, devoted to upholding the value and protection of life, specially trains young adults to advocate for unborn children. These interns, however, are not confined within church walls. They’re out door-to-door in the neighborhoods, street-evangelizing, sidewalk counseling, and conversing with community members about pro-life issues.
Each day, the interns gather at the parish for prayer and training before embarking on their missions. During their time at Holy Family, they reside in local rental homes – their steadfast commitment to their cause, making them an inspiring fixture at the church.
Having never conducted a full-time internship program in the past, this summer marks a new chapter for Protect Life Michigan. Starting in mid-May for college students and a month later for high school students, the interns relentlessly drove their mission till the middle of August.
Empowered with the knowledge about the sanctity of life and arguments against abortion, the group swept across Novi and nearby Detroit and Ann Arbor for outreach, striking conversations and distributing informational leaflets.
Reports by Protect Life Michigan at the end of the internship indicate their efforts are not in vain. Through personalized interactions, leaflet drops, and follow-up conversation, interns have reached over 148,000 people with their pro-life message. Their efforts lead to about 3,665 people in Novi reconsidering their pro-choice stance and an additional 2,542 people growing into pro-life believers.
Overall, the three-month-long summer initiative underscored the unit’s ability to break resistance through empathic conversation and unbiased information provision. To the pro-life interns, it was a rewarding experience and Houston Proud, to have witnessed how empathetic dialogues could initiate a change of heart in communities.
The Holy Family Parrish and Protect Life Michigan hope to continue making strides towards promoting a pro-life outlook in the future.
