A Power Outage Storm in Wixom Town!

Tuesday was one heck of a day for folks in Wixom, Michigan. A nasty storm blew through, leaving a whole bunch of us in the dark. And without power, well, let’s just say things got kind of tough.

The high winds and heavy rains were something else. You would not believe how many people ended up without power – we’re talking hundreds of thousands here. While some toughed it out at home, a bunch of us decided to head for nearby hotels. The biggest rush seemed to be at My Place Hotel on Alpha Drive.

The hotel’s support manager, Sally Manley, said it was like going from zero to sixty in no time. Their phones were ringing off the hook and they had folks queuing up to check in. You can bet they were fully booked that night.

One local lady, Tonya Etter, decided it was best for her and her little pit bull Sasha to head for the comfort of a hotel room. She couldn’t bear to see her pup suffer in the heat. Poor Tonya got only a couple hours of sleep at home and wasn’t about to endure another restless night.

The aftermath of the storm was pretty harsh. By Wednesday, a whopping 150,000 or so customers were still waiting to get their power back. The hotels, well, they were filling up again.

It wasn’t just My Place Hotel that was busy. Springhill Suites and Woodspring Suites were in the same boat. Everyone had the same idea – get a room, get plugged in, and get back to some kind of normal.

Another of our townsfolk, Elizabeth Wister, shared how she quickly packed and headed over to Woodspring Suites. She managed to snag a room under 100 bucks and was thankful for the small comforts of AC, TV, and charged devices.

Given the unpredictable weather, folks like Tonya and Elizabeth are planning to stay put in their hotel rooms for a while. And who can blame them? The best advice from Sally at My Place Hotel is to call early and secure a room.

So far, some 169,000 customers have had their power restored, but it’s gonna take a while to get to everyone. Here’s hoping all those heading back home won’t have to weather a storm like Tuesday’s anytime soon.
