In the quiet town of Pontiac, MI, horror struck early Wednesday morning when a man was brutally stabbed to death, allegedly by his neighbor. The events unfolded around 8:15 a.m. on a seemingly ordinary day, but what happened next would change the lives of a family forever.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, officers arrived on the scene to find 41-year-old William John Allison unresponsive in his driveway with a stab wound to the chest. It was reported that the attack was over before the family inside the house even knew what was happening. While Allison’s wife was busy getting their 8-year-old daughter ready for school, the violence erupted just outside their home on the 100 block of Ypsilanti Ave., nestled between Walton Boulevard and Columbia Avenue.
The accused, 50-year-old Timothy Ernest Legard, has been charged with a whopping 11 felony counts. These charges range from first-degree murder to first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, and multiple counts of assault. This list of charges paints a gruesome picture of the events that unfolded. If convicted, Legard could face a life sentence behind bars.
Details surrounding the attack are chilling. Investigators stated that Legard allegedly stabbed Allison with a kitchen knife in the driveway before turning his sights on Allison’s family. After the horrific murder, he allegedly entered the home where he proceeded to inflict further violence against Allison’s wife and daughter, committing heart-wrenching acts in their own family space. It is reported that the mother and daughter managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor, who then called 911.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Allison, whose tragic fate left a dark cloud over the community. The sheriff’s office made swift work of locating and apprehending Legard shortly after the attack, near the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Walton Boulevard.
Local residents are left reeling from the news. Just a few blocks away from the crime scene, many families inhabit this quiet neighborhood, and for them, the incident has been a wake-up call about the darkness that can sometimes lurk in the most familiar places. Sheriff’s officials, including Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, expressed their outrage, stating, “The allegations in this case are about as sick as they come. Murdered one of his friends and then sexually assaulted the victim’s wife and young daughter in the same room. Even for seasoned law enforcement veterans, the emotional trauma on these poor victims is overwhelming.”
Legard will face a court appearance on Saturday, and the community is waiting anxiously for the proceedings to begin, hoping for a sense of justice for the victims and their family. This shocking incident has left many residents questioning the safety of their neighborhood and processing the tragedy that has occurred.
As we await further developments in this deeply troubling case, our thoughts are with the victims and their family as they begin to navigate this unimaginable situation.
