Plymouth-Canton Bags a $145,000 Grant for Cobra Mascot Update

Plymouth-Canton, a community school district, has received a major financial boost. It has been awarded a huge grant of $145,000 from the Native American Heritage Fund (NAHF). They are planning to use these funds to replace their existing high school mascot, the Chiefs, with a new one, the Cobras.

This replacement comes after the students picked the Cobra mascot through a series of surveys conducted throughout the year. With a majority of students preferring Cobras over other options, the decision to rebrand was brought to life.

Funds from the grant will be used to support the projected cost of updating uniforms, logos, and other mascot-related items. Plymouth-Canton is appreciative of this substantial help from NAHF and believes that this will certainly usher in an exciting new chapter, tuning up anticipation among the students.

The NAHF is a public body in Michigan that grants funds to schools, colleges, and local governments. This body acknowledges the need to enhance understanding of Native American issues, including the sensitive matter of mascot and imagery revisions.

This change in mascot reflects Plymouth-Canton’s respect for native heritage, and it shows that the school board’s policies are in sync with the times. The choice of the students reflects the school’s commitment to a more relevant, respectful representation of their community.

Going forward, this money will be used judiciously to create a new identity for the school teams, ensuring the past is respectfully acknowledged while making way for an exciting new future shaped by the students themselves.
