This October, as you’re strolling through the streets of Novi, you might just spot a vibrant pink police car making its way around town. And no, it’s not a vehicle straight out of a toy store; it’s actually a powerful symbol of hope for those fighting breast cancer!
The Novi Police Department has been turning heads and raising awareness for the last eight years with its standout pink patrol car. This initiative aims to support breast cancer survivors and their families in a very special way. “For a $5 donation, we invited community members to sign a message of hope or to honor a loved one battling breast cancer,” explained Commander Jason Meier. The bright pink vehicle is now covered in the heartfelt signatures of those who wish to make a difference.
Since 2016, this community-driven effort has raised nearly $75,000 for the Assarian Cancer Center at Ascension Providence in Novi. Just last year alone, they managed to rake in an impressive $12,000! This year, the department has set its sights even higher, hoping to reach a goal of $15,000.
But where does all that money go? It’s a fantastic question! The funds are directed toward the Believe in Miracles fund, designed to alleviate some of the financial stresses that families face while supporting a loved one through their cancer battle. “What this money does is it allows them to focus on their loved one rather than worrying about their bills,” said Commander Meier, highlighting the importance of this initiative.
October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you can expect to see this eye-catching pink car at various community events throughout the month. Just last weekend, it was prominently displayed at a shopping show at the Suburban Collection Showplace. “At the women’s show, the car was front and center. We collected donations and encouraged people to sign it,” Meier shared excitedly.
This pink patrol car isn’t just a vehicle; it’s a powerful reminder of the resilience, hope, and strong sense of community among the residents of Novi. “This community really supports not only the police department, but they also support one another,” explained Meier. “The businesses here come together to help the community, and that’s truly fantastic!”
With many events taking place this month, there are numerous ways for you to participate in this meaningful cause. The police department has put together a full list of events that will give you the chance to donate and support those affected by breast cancer.
So, if you see that bright pink police car rolling by, take a moment to appreciate what it stands for. It’s not just an eye-catching vehicle; it represents a community coming together to shine a light on breast cancer awareness and support those who are bravely facing this battle.
Join in, make a donation, and maybe even leave a message of encouragement on the car. Every little bit helps, and together, we can all turn the tide in the fight against breast cancer!
