Oakland County unveils help for residents struggling with water bills

In a heartening move to support its residents, Oakland County has recently initiated a Hardship Assistance Program aimed at aiding folks grappling with water-related monetary problems. This program is designed specifically for those dealing with temporary hardships,

Undeniably, financial instabilities can lead to adverse circumstances- like loss of job, home, vehicles, savings, and more. In addition, the accompanying stress could detrimentally impact an individual’s overall health. Oakland County, recognizing the severity of such circumstances, is stepping up to provide the necessary assistance.

About the Hardship Assistance Program

This Hardship Assistance Program comes to the rescue of individuals or families who do not meet the criteria of the existing support programs for low-income households. If you’re facing a momentary financially tough phase, assistance is now available to prevent water shutoffs, rectifying leaks, and ensuring water affordability.

The program is open for all residents of Oakland County availing municipal water or sewer service. Households with an income of $93,600 for a family of four, $61,320 for a couple, or $45,180 for an individual are eligible to apply.

Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis with an initial household cap of $2,000. Notably, the program encompasses:

  • Plumbing repairs to address water loss that leads to increased consumption
  • Bill assistance for up to three months of water or sewer services
  • Help with erasing past-due balances

You may visit the official county website to get more information or apply online via the United Way for Southeastern Michigan portal. In addition, if you are in a position to contribute to this cause, you could also donate to the program online to help your neighbors.

A Welcome Initiative

This program is indeed a welcome initiative considering the significant role that access to clean water plays in daily life. Kudos to the Water Resources Commissioner’s office of Oakland County for launching this program. This office has always been dedicated in its service to the public while focusing on maintaining efficient service, protecting health and safety, preserving natural resources, upholding environmental integrity, and contributing to economic prosperity.

Follow them on their social channels for more updates on such beneficial programs.
