Oakland County’s Primary Election Finalized

There were steady results in the Oakland County primary elections on a rainy Election Day. The majority of incumbents did not face serious threats. Some familiar faces managed to fend off challenges, and two library millages were approved by the voters. In addition to that, a new city charter for Pontiac also got a thumbs up.

No Major Upsets for Incumbencs

Among the countywide elected leaders in Oakland County, only the water resources commissioner received substantial opposition in the primary. With just over 94% of districts reporting back, the incumbent commissioner had a significant lead over the opponent, earning about double the votes.

Similarly, the Democrat incumbent also faced no contest from prospective Republican opponents — save for two exceptions. The Republican primary for Oakland County treasurer saw three candidates wrestling for a chance to compete with the incumbent. Unsurprisingly, one candidate managed to lead with almost 45% votes, while the other two trailed behind.

City Council Seat and Water Resources Commissioner

A newcomer just missed out on a City Council seat in Troy. A nonpartisan election for a council seat that was vacated in Troy also caught attention, where an incumbent councilman managed to win with 52.70% votes, while his opponent scored 47.09%. The councilman will now fill in the seat till late 2027.

In the Republican run for Water Resources Commissioner, a candidate led the way with a little over 64% votes, vying for a chance to challenge the incumbent in the fall.

County Commission Primary Results

There were some notable races for the County Commission seats too. An incumbent Democrat comfortably held his spot by beating the challenger with over 82% votes. Another incumbent commissioner managed to fend off a challenge from a city mayor, securing more than 63% of the votes in the Democratic primary.

In the 16th District, an incumbent managed to ward off a primary challenge and won the primary election with over 66% of the votes. A new charter for Pontiac city also got approved by a good margin, aiming to make city operations more efficient and transparent.

Library Millages and Judicial Seat Election

Voters in two cities approved library millages. A significant majority in Rochester Hills endorsed a millage increase to boost public library operations. Walled Lake also saw a library renewal millage passing with more than 71% votes. A renewal millage for city operations in Wixom also received a nod with over 78% votes.

Three legal professionals competed for an open judicial seat in a non-partisan contest at Oakland County Circuit Court. With the majority of votes counted, one candidate had a significant lead with almost 50% votes.
