Oakland County Lights Up for Veterans with Operation Green Light Initiative

Oakland County to Shine Green for Veterans: Join the Celebration!

Southfield, MI — Are you ready to light up the night for our heroes? Oakland County is gearing up to honor all veterans in a spectacular way this November! From dusk until dawn, the Circuit Court Building at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac will glow a brilliant green from Friday, November 8, through Veterans Day on November 11. This isn’t just any light display; it’s part of a heartfelt initiative called Operation Green Light.

What is Operation Green Light?

Operation Green Light is a nationwide effort led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers (NACVSO). The aim? To show appreciation and support for our veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving this great country. By illuminating public buildings and homes with green lights, communities are encouraged to express their gratitude and solidarity with those who have served.

Light Up Your Home!

But wait, there’s more! Thanks to a wonderful partnership with DTE Energy, Oakland County Veterans’ Services is excited to provide 1,000 green light bulbs to residents who want to participate in this meaningful campaign. Imagine your home glowing bright with green light, sending a powerful message of support to our veterans!

Mark your calendars! These green bulbs will be handed out at a couple of special events:

  • Saturday, November 9, at 10 a.m. during the Ruck March at Centennial Commons. Located at the corner of Third and Troy Streets in Royal Oak, it promises to be a day filled with community spirit!
  • Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the Veterans’ Day ceremonies in both Royal Oak and Lathrup Village. A perfect time to gather, remember, and engage with fellow community members.

Serving Those Who Served

Oakland County is home to over 53,000 veterans, and their well-being is a top priority. The Veterans’ Services team is committed to helping veterans navigate the often-complex world of benefits, ensuring they receive all available support. And here’s the best part: these services are provided at NO charge!

If you or someone you know needs assistance or has questions about veteran benefits, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can visit the Oakland County Veterans’ Services website at oakgov.com/veterans. You can also give them a call at 248-858-0785 or shoot an email to veterans-services@oakgov.com. They’re ready and eager to help make the process smooth and straightforward!

Where to Find Them

Need a face-to-face chat? The Veterans’ Services offices are located in two convenient locations. The Pontiac office can be found at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, Building 26E on the Oakland County government campus. If you are closer to Troy, swing by their office inside the South Oakland Office at 1151 Crooks Road, Entrance B. Appointments are welcome, so feel free to stop by and take charge of your benefits!

Get Involved!

This Veterans Day, let’s show our veterans just how much we appreciate their sacrifices. By participating in Operation Green Light, not only will you brighten your own home, but you’ll also join a larger movement honoring our heroes. So grab your green bulbs, light up your night, and spread the word. Together, we can make a difference!

Let’s come together as a community to honor those who’ve given so much for our freedom. Join the movement and help Oakland County shine bright for veterans this November!
