Oakland County Bursting with Events and Activities

With the week gearing up, there’s plenty happening all around Oakland County. Here’s a quick glance at your community calendar for July 28 and beyond.

Car Shows

Car enthusiasts can look forward to several automotive showcases. There’s the “Muscle & More” event scheduled for Aug. 3 at the Royal Oak Historical Museum. On Aug. 10, America’s Corvette Car Show roars into Everest Collegiate High School & Academy, with proceeds from a silent auction due to benefit SCAMP. The same day, M1 Concourse in Pontiac is set to host Roadkill Nights. Fast forward a few days to Aug. 15 for Oak Park’s ‘Cruise & Groove’ Car Show. Capping the following weekend is the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Charitable Activities and Fundraisers

The “Knockout Skin Cancer” benefit, boasting a part by Jackie Kallen, known as “The First Lady of Boxing,” takes place on Aug. 1. Ace Hardware brings its Bucket Days Promotion from Aug. 2-4, giving shoppers a chance to donate $5 and score a discount. Meanwhile, Woodhouse Day Spa announces the Color of Wellness 5K Run for Aug. 3, and the Detroit Heart Walk strides into action Aug. 17.

Community Activities

Expect a mix of relaxed and exhilarating local fun. Wet and Wild Wednesdays run through July 31 at Rochester Hills Museum. Oakland Uncorked gets uncorked on Aug. 2 with local restaurants, wine distributors, craft beer brewers, and artists. Movies in the Moonlight will light up on Aug. 3 with a showing of “Barbie”, while Stream Science takes place every Thursday until Aug. 15.

Educational events

Attention, lifelong learners! Info sessions about free college tuition at Oakland Community College through the Michigan Reconnect program will hold on July 30. Meanwhile, a Youth Career Discovery Camp launches Aug. 5-8 for middle schoolers to explore high-demand careers.

Festivals and Shows

The Orchard Lake Fine Art Show runs July 27- July 28 with exhibitions by up to 140 nationally recognized artists. The Annual Diversity Expo Event takes place July 30 featuring 90+ minority, women, veteran, and LGBTQ+ businesses. The Free Family Fun Fair scheduled for Aug 4 aims to raise awareness for Mental Health and Rehabilitation. Duck Race and Family Picnic and Outdoor Movie in the Park kicks off at 6 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Shiawassee Park in Farmington.

Parks and Sports

It’s the perfect time to get outdoors! Red Oaks Waterpark in Madison Heights and Waterford Oaks Wave Pool in Waterford Twp. are open for the 2024 season.

Overall, it’s a packed schedule ahead for Oakland County, filled with lots of enjoyable activities, educational courses, sports, and festivals. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to plenty of fun and excitement over the coming weeks.
