Oakland County, Detroit Becomes The Target of a Voting Scam

Residents of Oakland County and Detroit are currently being targeted by a voting scam that has raised great concern among the community members, especially as the season for elections heats up.

It appears that this malpractice is particularly aimed at senior citizens who reside in Southfield and Detroit. They are being approached with offers of early voting opportunities. The scammers, posing as election officials, are requesting personal information such as Social Security and, in some incidences, their credit card details. There’s no doubt that this is a big scam raising some serious red flags.

Prior to this, there was another similar scam related to voting that involved text messages. The text recipients were asked to click on links to register. This too had caused quite an uproar among residents.

These scams are currently under investigation. Anyone who suspects a fraudulent activity or has received misinformation is urged to report the matter to authorities. Citizens should be aware that when registering to vote, one is never asked for their full Social Security number. It’s just the residency and identity information that’s required.

Be Cautious of Election Fraud

With the election season around the corner, citizens are reminded to rely only on state and local election officials for information related to voting and procedure. Genuine details about the early voting process can be sourced from the State’s official website.

As the community gets ready to exercise their democratic rights, it is paramount to stay vigilant, informed and report any suspicious activities noticeable in the election process.
