Residents of Oakland County have a host of community events to look forward to in the coming days. From social networking to car shows, festivals and fundraisers, there’s something for everyone.

Business Events

The Troy-based Green Olive Soaps is launching a new social networking and learning event called “Ladies Who Launch” on August 16. This event aims to highlight women business owners in Metro Detroit and will feature guest speakers sharing their personal journey to business ownership. Participation is free and residents can register by sending an email to greenolivesoaps@gmail.com.

Car enthusiasts can look forward to several shows including the Rockin Rods n’ Rochester, Woodward Dream Show & Festival, Oak Park ‘Cruise & Groove’ Car Show and the Woodward Dream Cruise that are taking place in different locations across the county.

Charitable Activities and Fundraisers

The Mike Morse Law Firm is hosting a backpack giveaway for students in grades K-5 on August 11. The first-come-first-serve event will provide backpacks filled with essential school supplies. Elsewhere, residents can play a life-sized version of Candy Land at the Somerset Collection’s North Grand Court with a $5 donation that goes to benefit the nonprofit Fleece & Thank You. Another fundraiser scheduled for August 17 is the Detroit Heart Walk, which hopes to benefit the Children’s Heart Foundation.

Community Events

The Maranatha Baptist Church is hosting a Church in the Park event at Depot Park on August 14. On August 16, there’s a free outdoor movie at Central United Methodist Church. Also, on August 17, the Health & Housing Summer Fest will take place at Catalpa Oaks County Park, offering free family fun and a resource expo for Oakland County residents.
