Novi Provides Temporary Space and Support for Pex’s Transition

The city of Novi has decided to lend a helping hand to People’s Express, also known as Pex, as it transitions into being the main provider of curb-to-curb transit services. Pex, which took over operations in Novi on July 1, has been permitted to use the Novi Civic Center as a temporary base until the end of the year.

The Novi City Council gave a green light to the measure allowing Pex a lease for office use, parking spaces, and access to the city’s fuel pumps. City Manager Victor Cardenas emphasized the importance of having Pex representatives on-site for efficient communication and smoother transition.

Council members expressed their optimism regarding Pex being on-site to provide clear answers during the transition. There is also an option to extend the six-month agreement further if needed.

However, some council members also expressed the need for Pex to eventually rent space and not use city parking spaces for free permanently. Pex, currently based in Whitmore Lake, will find this move beneficial as it facilitates the invoicing of free rides for seniors and disabled riders. Also, the new arrangement will spare Novi bus drivers from the daily commute to Whitmore Lake to fetch their vehicles.

Despite some concerns, the measure was unanimously passed with a 6-0 vote. Pex meanwhile, has not commented on its long-term plans regarding a permanent base in Novi.

Novi citizens can look forward to a smoother transition of transport services as Pex moves closer to the community. Combining efficient communication with the investment of a physical presence in the city, the arrangement is set to ensure that public transport services continue to meet the needs of Novi residents.
