Novi Residents Encouraged to Attend Meeting on Major Novi Road Renovation Project

Novi Residents Invited to Upcoming Meeting on Major Road Renovation

If you’re a resident of Novi or Northville, mark your calendars! A public meeting is set for October 23 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Hillside Middle School, where you can learn all about the significant renovation planned for Novi Road. The project will cover a critical stretch of road between Eight Mile and Nine Mile Roads, a busy passage used by approximately 13,700 vehicles each day!

What to Expect from the Renovation

The work will take place over two years and will be done in two phases starting in 2025. The entire renovation project is expected to cost around $6.7 million, with a significant portion funded by federal grants. Any additional expenses will be shared among the Oakland County Road Commission, Novi, Northville, and the county’s general fund.

The scope of work is quite extensive and aims to enhance not only the road itself but also the safety and accessibility for everyone. Here’s a closer look at what will be happening:

  • Reconstruction of a Curve: One of the first tasks will be the reconstruction of the curve located between Eight Mile Road and Allen Road near the picturesque Rouge River.
  • Pavement Milling and Repaving: In 2026, crews will mill off the old pavement and repave the area with fresh asphalt, ensuring a smoother ride for motorists.
  • New Lane Configuration: The addition of a center left-turn lane will create two northbound through lanes and one southbound through lane from Allen Road to Nine Mile Road.
  • Curbs and Gutters: Where necessary, new curbs and gutters will be added to help with drainage.
  • Storm Sewers: Installing new storm sewers is essential for improving drainage and preventing flooding.
  • Improving Access: Some side-street and driveway approaches will be renovated to make them safer and more accessible.
  • Pedestrian Enhancements: Enhancements will be made to pedestrian crosswalks to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • HAWK Beacons: High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) beacons will be installed just north of Galway Street to help pedestrians safely cross the road.

What This Means for Drivers

During the course of the renovation, Novi Road will be closed to through traffic. To make sure you can still get around, a detour will guide you along 8 Mile Road to Meadowbrook Road to 9 Mile Road and back to Novi Road. Expect some intermittent lane closures as utility relocations take place.

Your Questions Matter!

road commission officials. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get up-to-date information and voice any concerns you might have about the upcoming roadwork.

For anyone who can’t attend the meeting, there’s also an option to learn more about the project through the Oakland County Road Commission’s project page online.

In summary, this renovation is a much-needed step towards improving road safety and accessibility in our communities. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn more and get involved!
