So, what does all of this mean for local homeowners? For residents with homes valued at around $250,000, the tax increase would land roughly at $125 annually. For those with a somewhat lower property value of about $200,000, it’s estimated that the additional cost would hit around $200 per year, starting in 2026. While such increases may raise eyebrows, many residents are prepared to consider the long-term benefits of improved public safety.
Current police and fire facilities are not just outdated; they have become inadequate to serve a city that is rapidly flourishing. The existing police station has seen some creative modifications over the years, with walls shifted to create office space from what was once a closet. The bathroom situation has also been creatively adjusted, now serving as a locker room due to the lack of available space. The police department desperately needs upgrades to meet modern policing standards and functions.
As for the firefighters, their situation mirrors that of the police. Some fire stations currently lack basic facilities for female employees, such as proper bathrooms, showers, and even decontamination zones.
