Sponsor Our ArticlesIn Novi, a jewelry store was the recent target of a well-orchestrated theft. The sneaky schemers made away with pricey jewelry estimated to be around $10,000.
Last weekend, at the local shop called Gold Buy and Jewelry Pawn Loans, a lady and a young fella came in asking about a ring for one of her boys. The lady looked to be about in her 60s and was wearing a hijab. While the only staff member on duty was busy with these two, another pair of customers showed up asking about rings as well.
Here’s where things got dodgy. These blokes managed to distract the employee and one of them quickly reached over the counter, opened the display case and swiped a box filled with 18 rings. His partner stashed the box in a purse and they both bolted from the shop soon after.
The police are treating all four of these ‘customers’ as suspects right now. A cop named Jason Meier gave us a bit more info on the duo that pulled off the heist. One of them was about 6 feet 2 inches tall, had a medium build with short black hair, glasses, and a short beard. He was kitted out in all black. The other chap, the one with the purse, was shorter and thinner, around 5-foot-8, and was wearing a beanie cap, a white shirt, and black trousers.
The brazen theft took place between 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., and the police were at the scene in no time after the poor staffer called it in.
In regards to retail theft in 2022, it turns out that there were 23,603 cases reported. Out of these and other larceny instances totaling 104,416 cases, the law only managed to solve 12.1% of them with an arrest or prosecution.
