On a regular Thursday evening in Novi, a local man lost his life in a severe car accident. Steven Erno, a 62-year-old man, was driving on Beck Road when his car crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into another vehicle. The tragic accident happened on August 29.
Local authorities rushed to the scene around 5:08 p.m., north of 8 Mile Road on Beck Road. It seems, Erno was driving his Ford Fusion towards the north when the unfortunate event occurred. For unknown reasons, he crossed the centerline and collided with a GMC truck coming from the opposite direction. The man driving the GMC truck survived the incident without the need for medical treatment.
Evidence so far shows that neither alcohol nor drugs were involved in the accident. However, the investigation is still ongoing and an autopsy is to be performed.
Lt. Adam Elsen, an officer of Novi’s Police Department stressed on the importance of careful driving. “We never know what could happen on the road. So, it’s always good to drive without distractions and watch your speed,” he cautioned.
While the reason behind Erno crossing the centerline is still unknown, this unfortunate incident serves as a solemn reminder to everybody about road safety and the unpredictability of such incidents.
