Exciting Changes Ahead for Northville Township!

NORTHVILLE TWP. — Big news is unfolding in Northville Township as Township Manager Todd Mutchler prepares to hang up his boots after an impressive 38-year career in public service. Mark your calendars, folks! Todd is set to retire on December 6, bringing an end to a chapter filled with achievements and heartfelt community service that has touched the lives of many.

The township made the announcement on November 25, sharing the news of Todd’s retirement while also introducing his successor. Glenn Caldwell, the current Assistant Township Manager and Director of Human Resources, will step up to fill Mutchler’s shoes after a year of mentorship under his guidance. Northville Township Supervisor Mark Abbo expressed the sentiment that Todd’s shoes will be “very tough to fill,” but he is confident in Glenn’s abilities. “We realized we had someone who could be a very successful replacement within our midst,” Abbo stated.

In Search of Adventure

So what’s next for Todd after leaving his post? He is excited to dive into retirement with plans that include plenty of adventure, family time, and of course, fishing! Traveling with his wife Kay in their RV, the couple has dreams of visiting family scattered across the country, from Oregon to Boston. This trip is set to be filled with quality time as they stop by to see their three children and three grandchildren. Todd can’t wait to incorporate some fly fishing and skiing into their travels – sounds like a summer well spent!

The Legacy of a Leader

For the past five years, Todd Mutchler has made a mark on Northville Township that won’t be forgotten anytime soon. Initially joining in 2016 as Police Chief after a long stint with the Canton Township Police Department, he worked his way up to the position of Township Manager in late 2019. Under Todd’s stewardship, he led many important projects like creating a new Essential Services Complex and removing the rundown psychiatric hospital buildings at Legacy Park. His leadership helped the township earn the prestigious Top Workplaces honor from the Detroit Free Press for two consecutive years!

Mutchler’s business savvy and heart for the community drove him to adopt policies and procedures that made each department stronger. Highlighting his commitment, the township noted that he worked tirelessly for the Northville Township Police Department to achieve accreditation. “I can’t take credit for all our successes, but our team can,” Todd mentioned. His farewell message reflects gratitude to those who supported him throughout his career.

A Smooth Transition

The Northville Township Board of Trustees officially accepted Todd Mutchler’s resignation during their meeting on November 21. With Glenn Caldwell set to step in as manager, the township remains in capable hands. This transition is particularly relevant as only about 5% of Michigan’s 1,240 townships have a manager – Northville Township is proud to be part of that innovative minority.

“We can hire professional managers to manage the day-to-day affairs of the township, while we have elected officials that provide guidance and vision,” Supervisor Abbo explained, emphasizing the effectiveness of having a dedicated township manager in place.

A Bright Future Ahead

As Todd gears up to embrace this new chapter of life, he reminds us all to cherish the time spent with loved ones. While he has made significant contributions to the community, it’s now time for him to explore the world and create memories with family.

Here’s to Todd Mutchler – a leader, a mentor, and soon-to-be an adventurer! Northville Township wishes you all the best in your well-deserved retirement!

Stay tuned for more updates on the changes coming to the township and the new journeys ahead.
