Southfield Celebrates Grand Opening of New ReStore to Boost Home Improvement and Community Support

Southfield Welcomes New ReStore: A Hub for Home Improvement and Community Support!

Southfield is buzzing with excitement as it introduced a new member to its community on December 4th! The spotlight was on the fabulous grand opening of Habitat for Humanity of Oakland County’s newest ReStore location, located at 22110 Telegraph Road. A merry gathering of city officials, supporters, volunteers, and shoppers came together to snip the ribbon and mark the start of something wonderful. Previously, the ReStore was set up in Farmington Hills, and now it’s ready to roll in Southfield!

What’s the Buzz About ReStore?

So, what’s a ReStore, you ask? Well, think of it as a treasure trove for home improvement enthusiasts! ReStores are resale shops that sell donated furniture, decor, building materials, and appliances at prices that won’t break the bank. It’s a win-win situation because, while savvy shoppers score amazing deals, the funds raised help support Habitat’s mission of making homeownership a reality for families in need. Isn’t that fantastic?

Celebrating New Beginnings

The day kicked off with joyous celebrations led by Michele Hodges, the executive director and CEO of Habitat Oakland. She warmly welcomed everyone and likened the ReStore to a “home of a different kind.” Michele even requested for the DJ to play “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to really set the mood. She passionately mentioned, “This is the place that will empower us to continue to build homes, community, and hope for those who are dear to us.”

Mayor Ken Siver also took the stage to reminisce about how Habitat and the city teamed up for various initiatives, including the popular Rock the Block program. This annual event has been a game-changer for Southfield neighborhoods since 2016, as dedicated volunteers help with yard cleanups, trash removal, lawn maintenance, and more. “We have become very familiar faces in the community,” Mayor Siver shared.

A Shared Commitment to the Community

The Southfield Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative has been working hand-in-hand with Habitat for Humanity, focusing on restoring homes and improving property values in the area. “Southfield experienced more foreclosures following the mortgage crisis than any other community in Oakland County,” Mayor Siver explained. “These homes were being stripped and vandalized, which posed a massive challenge for our neighborhoods.” Yet, with the partnership of Habitat, the community has been able to turn things around and rebuild hope.

Now, shoppers are encouraged to visit the new ReStore and explore its offerings! The store is open for browsing Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.. Those looking to donate can do so in-store during operating hours. And if you’ve got larger items to get rid of? No worries! You can arrange free donation pickups by calling the Donation Call Center or shooting them an email.

Join the Movement!

For anyone curious to learn more about the ReStore or to browse their inventory online, simply head on over to their website. With each purchase or donation, you’re not just decluttering your space; you’re making a significant impact in the lives of families within the community.

So, Southfield residents, get ready to roll up your sleeves, dive into your basements and garages, and find those underrated treasures. Your new ReStore is waiting to help you and to share the gift of home and hope with others. Happy shopping!
