In a surprising turn of events, former Los Angeles city councilman and California Democrat, Nate Holden, believes former US President, Donald Trump, may have confused him with another politician, Willie Brown, while recounting a daring helicopter adventure story. Trump had claimed to have experienced a dangerous helicopter ride with Willie Brown, which resulted in an emergency landing, an anecdote Brown has since vehemently disputed.
Holden, in an interview, humorously highlighted the misconception, stating, “Willie is the short Black guy living in San Francisco, I’m a tall Black guy living in Los Angeles. I guess we all look alike.” This revelation comes subsequent to Trump’s account, shared during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, where he described a harrowing experience of an emergency landing while onboard with Brown, who was allegedly concerned at the time.
Delving into the past, Holden recalled his interaction with Trump during the 1990s when he sought to refurbish the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The duo had met at Trump Tower before embarking on a trip to Atlantic City to observe the Taj Mahal casino. It wasn’t long while travelling on the flight that issues arose, compelling the pilot to make an emergency landing.
Barbara Res, who was present on the helicopter during the ill-fated journey, backed Holden’s statement. In her 2013 book, she had delineated the terrifying experience. She remembered observing the co-pilot frantically pumping a device while the helicopter shook violently, leading to an abrupt stopover in Atlantic City.
Res amusingly revealed that Trump would often jest about her paling during the incident while he himself had gone “white as snow”, appearing noticeably scared.
Despite Holden’s newfound disclosure, Trump reiterated on his social media platform, Truth Social, late Friday, his claim that Brown was his co-passenger during the emergency landing. He cited an article referring to Brown’s 2013 SFGate column where Brown acknowledged Trump once sent a private jet to Boston to bring him for lunch. Nonetheless, there’s no mention of an emergency landing in Brown’s account.
Holden told Politico that he had conversed with Brown following Trump’s helicopter ride recollection and stressed that critics of Vice President Kamala Harris, who Brown used to date, were not present during the ride as Trump had previously alleged.
Regarding the former President’s account, Holden succinctly concluded, “He either mixed it up. Or, he made it up.” This latest revelation adds a significant twist to the story, raising further questions about the credibility of Trump’s account and the reality of the events that transpired that day.
