But it’s actually happening right here in Michigan. Former Governors, a Congressman, and even a Lieutenant Governor have all aligned to rebuild confidence in our voting systems.
John Engler and Michael Bishop, both with Republican roots, join forces with Democrats James Blanchard and John Cherry for one mission – to ensure that the democratic process, within the state and across the country, carries on without a hitch. Their primary focus? The upcoming November 2024 elections, where they aim to dispel myths and squash fears regarding the integrity of the voting process.
As part of the Democracy Defense Project, these leaders intend to challenge any disinformation causing doubt against the electoral process, regardless of the source. They believe that instilling trust in the voting process from the public is crucial.
According to a recent survey, Republicans seem more inclined to believe controversial statements regarding the elections over official results. Such statements often imply that unfair practices might occur in the upcoming election. However, our ex-leaders see it as a distrustful game. The idea of claiming an election is rigged even before it happens doesn’t sit well with them.
Approximately two-thirds of Republicans have shown trust in such provocative statements about the results of the upcoming race. On the other side, only half of these Republicans appear to trust official certifications.
