Hey there, West Bloomfield! If you were feeling a bit blue back in February when you heard that Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum was going to be torn down, we have some exciting news that’ll lift your spirits! That beloved arcade and museum we all know and love is moving, but don’t worry — it’s just a hop, skip, and jump away!
That’s right! Marvin’s is packing up its eclectic collection and relocating just five minutes north to 6421 Orchard Lake Road. This cozy new spot used to be home to Sav-On Efros Drugs and is located inside the Orchard Mall Plaza, right on the northeast corner of Maple and Orchard Lake roads. And if you’re wondering what else is nearby, you’ll find it next to a Planet Fitness and close to the popular Shangri-La restaurant!
Mark your calendars! The last day at the current Hunter’s Square location will be January 5, 2025. After that, owner Jeremy Yagoda has plans to take some well-deserved time to “relax” before the big move. As for when the new location will be open to the public, he hasn’t divulged any dates yet, but rest assured, the anticipation is building!
Prepare for a major upgrade! The new building will be a whopping 14,000 square feet, nearly triple the size of the current 5,300-square-foot setup at Hunter’s Square. This means there’s going to be plenty of room for all your favorite games and attractions. Jeremy has plans for private party rooms perfect for birthday celebrations, along with a layout that’s more spacious for everyone to enjoy.
But don’t worry! While they are expanding, Jeremy wholeheartedly assures visitors that the goal is to keep that wonderful “sensory overload” experience you all love. “We are going to replicate it as well as we can,” he shares. However, since the new space doesn’t have ceilings that reach nearly 40 feet high like the current location, some things might look a tad different.
Exciting news for fans of retro entertainment — Marvin’s may even bring back an old animatronic Chuck E. Cheese show that hasn’t been operational since the late ’90s! Thanks to a group specializing in restoring these vintage attractions, Jeremy is optimistic about getting the old show running again. Just imagine the nostalgic thrill it’ll bring!
Looking back at the road to relocation, there was a wave of concern when it was announced that the museum’s current building would be demolished due to redevelopment plans, including a new Meijer grocery store. A change.org petition titled “Save Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum” gained over *50,000 signatures*, with many supporters voicing their love for the museum during city meetings.
Jeremy vividly recalls the heartwarming support: “It touched my heart,” he commented. “It’s just so marvelous to see how many people the place has touched and how many were excited for us to keep going on.” And though change can be tough, it’s clear the community is rallying together, eager for this new chapter!
In a recent Facebook statement, Jeremy emphasized the city of Farmington Hills has been “AMAZING” to Marvin’s for over 40 years and reassured everyone that growth can be a good thing—even if it means moving to a new place. He passionately concluded, “Retirement was never an option. I enjoy what I do far too much.”
So gear up, West Bloomfield! The countdown to Marvin’s new adventure has begun, and it promises to be filled with more games, surprises, and good times for all. Let’s get ready to support this cherished institution as it embarks on an exciting journey ahead!
