Heads Up, Oakland County Drivers! Major I-96 Closures This Weekend

Hey there, Oakland County! If you’re planning to hit the road this weekend, you might want to pay attention. There’s some important news about the eastbound lanes of I-96 that you should know about. Starting tonight, a good chunk of this busy freeway is going to close down as work crews continue to make improvements.

What’s Happening?

From 10 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday, all eastbound lanes of I-96 will be completely closed from Wixom Road to I-275. This is all part of a project to add a flex lane to help with traffic flow. Once they reopen the roads at 2 a.m., drivers will still face closures between Wixom Road and Novi Road until 3 p.m. Saturday—that’s quite the stretch for roadwork!

What This Means for You

If you usually travel this route, you’ll need to plan for alternate routes during these closures. The ramps connecting Wixom and Novi roads to eastbound I-96 will also be closed. To dodge those detours, the recommended path is to take Wixom Road to Grand River Avenue and then hop on northbound Novi until you can get back to eastbound I-96. It might take a little extra time, but you’ll get there!
