At just 26, Jason has become a key player in showcasing the vibrancy of our community through his unique video production skills.
A Journey of Passion and Hard Work
Jason graduated from the Novi Adult Transition Center in June and has always had an eye for video making. He initially developed his interest in video editing when he was around nine or ten years old. His passion truly flourished during a broadcast class at Novi Middle School, where he started creating “This Week in History” videos. “I’ve loved it ever since,” he says with a bright smile.
From Building Attendant to Video Production
Before stepping into his role in video production, Jason worked diligently as a building attendant for the city of Novi for six years. During that time, he often popped into the community relations department to learn more about what they do. In March 2023, things took a lovely turn when Sheryl Walsh-Molloy, the director of communications for Novi, approached Jason with an opportunity to help film city meetings. This was the perfect chance for Jason to merge his enthusiasm for video with a role in his community.
Behind the Camera: The News He Captures
Jason is now part of a small team responsible for recording seven city meetings each month, including the City Council, the Library Board, and more. His skills in capturing these important events quickly impressed the team. Josh Buscher, a senior video production specialist, noted, “We found out that he is very technically proficient.” And while Jason works independently, the staff is always on hand to assist him with any technical hiccups, like microphone issues.
A Fresh Perspective for the City’s Stories
Since he began, Jason has produced delightful videos centered around themes like the city’s butterfly garden, recycling initiatives, and the arrival of a new firetruck. What’s remarkable is his approach: he not only captures the essence of the stories he films but also writes a script with the help of an AI app, plans his shots, and edits it all together. It takes him about two days to transform an idea into a polished two-minute video.
What’s Next for Jason? The Sky’s the Limit!
As his journey continues, both Jason and the team at the community relations department are excited about future projects. There are talks of covering local events, educational initiatives, and possibly spotlighting unique stories that might otherwise go untold. Walsh-Molloy mentioned that they have a long list of ideas, showing just how much they value Jason’s contributions.

Not only is Jason proving to be a pivotal member of the city’s video team, but he is also an inspiration to many. His positivity and sincerity shine through in his work. As Walsh-Molloy puts it, “Jason is our shining star.” He dreams of having his own desk in the Communications Department at the Novi Civic Center, complete with a nameplate. “That would be amazing!” he beams.
