Closure Announced for Portion of I-75 for Construction Work in Northern Oakland County

The well-travelled freeway in Clarkston, Northern Oakland County, I-75, will be closed over the upcoming weekend due to construction work, according to recent reports.

Specifically, the section between M-15 (Ortonville Road) and the Oakland/Genesee county line will be affected. Here, crews will be set up to build emergency pull-off areas and temporary crossovers in the I-75 median.

The closure will commence on Friday, August 9 from 9 p.m., and is slated to end by 5 a.m. on Monday, August 12, all things being equal with the weather. Northbound I-75 will be closed from US-24 (Exit 93) to Saginaw Road (Exit 106).

Traffic that would normally use northbound I-75 will be redirected via northbound US-24 (Dixie Highway) (Exit 93) in the Village of Clarkston with a route that continues north to I-75 in Genesee County.

This construction work is a component of a larger project that is anticipated to be wrapped up in late fall. The plan is funded under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan initiative that targets the state highways and bridges handling the most traffic or of significant importance to Michigan’s economy. The investment strategy focuses on comprehensive repairs aiming for a longer life span and upgrading state infrastructure conditions.

The Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) approximate investment for the resurfacing and repairing of I-75, spanning from M-15 (Ortonville Road) to the Oakland/Genesee County line, is around $160 million. This substantial project incorporates resurfacing I-75, fixing 11 bridges, improving drainage, replacing culverts, and updating signs and guardrail.

Various tasks will take place at different locations and follow different schedules along the 15-mile stretch over the four years of the project. Stay tuned for more updates on this significant work in our local community.
