Michigan Newlyweds Face Charges Over Groomsman’s Death on Wedding Day

Michigan Bride and Groom Facing Charges for Groomsman’s Death

In a shocking incident that took place in Flint, Michigan, a newlywed couple is facing charges in connection with the death of a groomsman following an altercation on their wedding day. The man was reportedly struck by the groom’s SUV in a case that has left the local community stunned.

Grievous Accident Following a Dispute

According to the Flint Police Department, on the 30th of August, they were called to respond to an accident on the 1400 block of E. Hamilton. Upon arrival, the officers found a severely injured 29-year-old man lying on the ground, who was later pronounced dead at Hurley Medical Center.

Identified as James Shirah, a 22-year-old man, and his wife, Savahna Collier, aged 21, the couple had been married earlier that day. The victim had attended their wedding as a groomsman. Following a heated argument that got out of hand, the man was struck by a high-speed vehicle, allegedly driven by the groom himself.

The Couple’s Charges and Court Appearance

Shirah has since been arraigned on a count of second-degree murder and is currently being held without bond. His wife, Collier, was arraigned for being an accessory after the fact to a felony. Her bond was set at a significant $4,000.

On his court visit, the groom was given a $50,000 personal bond by the 36th District Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath, meaning he will not have to put any money up to leave custody.

A Community in Shock

This tragic incident has left the community in Flint in a state of shock. The couple’s Facebook page, filled with wedding pictures from earlier that day, has become a tragic reminder of the drastic turn of events.

An Ongoing Investigation

The investigation into this tragic event is still ongoing, as Flint police continue to piece together the events leading up to the groomsman’s death. The implications of this case could be wide-reaching and serve as a reminder of the potential for violence that can arise out of seemingly minor disputes.
