Wixom City Witnesses Completion of Grand River Construction

With a sigh of relief, the City of Wixom is welcoming the conclusion of a substantial road construction project. The activity focused on Grand River from Napier Road to Wixom Road has now wrapped up. This project, a collaboration between the city’s Road Commission and the City of Wixom, has brought significant safety and functional enhancements to the highly frequented road.

Construction kicked off on April 1st with a budget of upwards of $5.4 million. The process entailed a variety of improvements, including stripping away the old pavement for an asphalt replacement, refining drainage systems, and paving sections of the road’s shoulder. A continuous center left-turn lane extending from Napier Road to 12 Mile was also added.

Furthermore, the pedestrian crosswalks got a makeover to make sure they’re now in line with the standards laid out by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These enhancements promise safer and smoother traffic for everyone using the road.

In addition, the traffic lights at the intersections of Grand River and Napier Road, as well as Grand River and 12 Mile, received a much-needed upgrade. The goal was to improve the safety and efficiency of these junctions.

During the entirety of the construction, the flow of traffic on Grand River was maintained to avoid causing unnecessary disruption for travelers and local residents. However, the Road Commission alerts that some minor additional tasks are forthcoming to restore the grassy regions behind the curbs. To make things easy for everyone, this work will result in short, sporadic lane closures, scheduled strategically to alleviate the effect on traffic.
