Old Fire Hall in Whitmore Lake All Set for a Transformation

Hey there folks! Here’s a little slice of exciting news from Whitmore Lake. Remember that old fire hall down at Barker Road? Well, it’s set to get a major face-lift! The building that has been standing tall for nearly 80 years now is lined up for a significant transformation into – wait for it – a 7-unit apartment building!

The development plan includes carving up 4 apartments on the first floor and 3 on the second. This isn’t your ordinary renovation work – it’s a project aimed at bringing new life to the town’s heritage building curated by Driven Design Studio, sponsored by B&J Real Estate Investment.

Before diving into the project, the developers needed the green signal from the township board. Thankfully, they got it all in late July. It was smooth sailing with no folks raising the voice during the public discussion of the project. And guess what? The plan had already been recommended by the Planning Committee. So, everything just lined up perfectly!

Those in favor of the project emphasized that it will not only serve to renovate the old building and repurpose it for modern use, but will also add to the character of the Whitmore Lake-Downtown District, where it’s located. The area boasts the charm of the small community and is zoned for such plans. And yes, by the way, they got a conditional land use permit for the first-floor apartments, all fair and square!

No doubt, this revamp is painting a fresh lease of life for the old fire hall. Can’t wait to see the spruced-up version of our town’s vintage fire hall serving a contemporary purpose!
