Excitement Builds in Novi as Election Day Approaches

The city of Novi is buzzing with anticipation as residents prepare to head to the polls on November 5, 2024. Voters will be making decisions on a wide range of candidates for federal, state, county, judicial, and local offices. Not only will the community be selecting representatives, but there will also be important issues on the ballot, including a parks and recreation millage for Oakland County and questions pertaining to the Walled Lake and Northville school districts.

Who’s on the Ballot?

This election season, the spotlight is on a diverse group of candidates, each bringing their unique perspectives and goals to the table. For the U.S. Senate, six candidates are vying for a six-year term. Democrat Elissa Slotkin, a U.S. Representative, emphasizes her commitment to creating a pathway into the middle class for Michiganders, alongside important issues like healthcare costs and voting rights.

On the Republican side, Mike Rogers, a former Congressman, aims to offer relief from high living costs, promising to work across the aisle, highlight his accomplishments in cutting inflation, and safety concerns regarding the southern border.

Local Representatives Need Your Vote!

When it comes to the U.S. House of Representatives, candidates are also eager to share their visions with the constituents. For District 6, incumbent Debbie Dingell believes it’s crucial for people to have their voices heard in the policy-making process. Meanwhile, Heather Smiley, a retired Ford manager, wants to focus on civil rights, economic strength, and national sovereignty.

In the District 11 House race, Haley Stevens hopes to continue improving trade and education issues, while her opponents, like attorney Nick Somberg, are keen on reducing government oversight and inflation.

State and County Contests

The election is just as lively at the state and county levels. For instance, Kelley Breen, the Democratic candidate for State House District 21, intends to persist with investments in education and community services, while Republican Thomas Konesky emphasizes creating a business-friendly environment in Michigan.

At the county level, the race for Oakland County Executive features David Coulter, who is dedicated to balancing the budget and improving public services, competing against Republican Nik Gjonaj.

Key Issues in Focus

Beyond candidates, voters will also face propositions that address pressing community needs. The Oakland County Parks and Recreation millage seeks to maintain and improve park facilities while ensuring a commendable experience in nature for residents.

In the Walled Lake School District, voters will decide on a millage replacement proposal vital for general operating purposes, aimed at maintaining funding levels that directly enhance educational experiences.

Getting Informed

Each candidate has been asked to articulate their top goals if elected, giving voters a clearer view of what to expect. It’s an opportunity for all residents to engage and reflect on how these candidates resonate with their values and needs.

As the countdown to election day begins, the community of Novi is encouraged to research candidates and proposals. Participation in local elections is more crucial than ever, shaping the future of our city and beyond. When you receive your ballot, remember that every vote matters!

Let Your Voice Be Heard

The excitement in Novi is palpable, and your participation can truly make a difference. Be informed, be engaged, and most importantly, make your voice count on November 5, 2024.
