Voters Turn Out in Droves Across Michigan, Northville Faces Setback Due to Gas Leak

Voters Turn Out in Droves Across Michigan, Northville Faces a Setback!

Hey there, fellow Michiganders! It’s Election Day here, and the excitement is tangible as voters across the state eagerly head to the polls to make their voices heard. In Northville, the spirit of democracy is alive and well—despite a little hiccup. The city reported a gas leak at one of its polling places, causing some inconvenience for local voters!

Gas Leak Closes Precinct 1

At around 12:30 p.m., Northville officials announced that Precinct 1, usually located at the Community Center on Main Street, would be closed for voting due to a gas leak. Luckily, local authorities have quickly organized a plan B! Voters who usually cast their ballots at this precinct can head over to Hillside Middle School until the issue is resolved. Rest assured, Consumers Energy is on site, working diligently to fix the problem.

Poll Hours: Don’t Miss Your Chance!

In the meantime, don’t forget that polls across Michigan are open until 8 p.m.. This is your chance to participate in one of the most significant days in our political calendar! If you’re still looking for your polling location, you can find it easily by clicking on the provided resources.

Free and Discounted Rides on Election Day

To make it easier for everyone to get to their polling places, there are some great options available! SMART Bus is offering free rides throughout Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties today. That’s right, all fixed route buses, connector services, ADA paratransit, and even SMART Flex rides are free from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.. No excuses now—get out there and vote!

Additionally, for those who might prefer rideshare, Lyft is offering a 50% discount on rides, up to $10 off. Just use the promo code VOTE24. Not to be left out, Uber is having the same deal. Just open the app, locate your polling place, and ask for a ride to the polls!

Make Your Vote Count!

This Election Day is particularly important, as voters will be deciding not only on the next president but also who will fill Debbie Stabenow’s U.S. Senate seat. But that’s not all—plenty of local elections are also on the ballot. Residents in Oakland County, for example, are weighing an important park mileage proposal that could enhance local recreational opportunities.

If you still have an absentee ballot sitting at home, remember that you can bring it to your polling place to submit it before the 8 p.m. deadline. You can also drop it off at a secure drop box or return it to your clerk’s office. And speaking of absentee ballots, if you’ve submitted one but want to vote in person instead, you need to spoil your unsubmitted absentee ballot at your polling place. Just bring it along and let the friendly poll workers know you’d like to switch to in-person voting.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve lost or cannot find your absentee ballot, don’t fret! You’ll just need to sign a statement confirming that it’s lost or destroyed. Easy peasy!

So, whether you’re heading out to vote, utilizing those free bus rides, or getting a discount on a rideshare, today is the day to participate in shaping our future. Get out there and make your voice heard, Michigan!
