In a delightful twist to the political landscape, Canton has found itself at the center of a cat-tastic campaign that’s sure to warm hearts and raise some eyebrows. Oscar, a charming nine-year-old domestic shorthair, has recently been named the feline nominee for Vice President, running alongside Morris, the well-known spokes-cat for 9Lives cat food. This dynamic duo is gearing up to spread the word about the importance of pet adoptions, and we can’t help but cheer them on!
Oscar isn’t your ordinary cat. Living with his human, Chuck Churches, in Canton, this lovable furball has a flair for adventure. “Depending on his mood, he can be very playful, curious and adventurous,” Chuck shared in a recent email. But wait, there’s a softer side too! Often, Oscar can be found curled up on Chuck’s lap, catching some Z’s or giving a much-needed cuddle after a long day apart.
It all started when Chuck adopted Oscar as a stray kitten back in May 2016. “After that, he grew on me, and I couldn’t put him back outside,” he explained. Since then, Oscar has truly become Chuck’s best friend and only fur baby, sharing many moments filled with a mix of fun, cuddles, and watching the world go by through the window. “He loves to watch squirrels and birds, and, of course, he enjoys a good catnap!”
Oscar’s journey to the Vice-Presidency began with a nationwide online voting contest hosted by 9Lives, where folks had the chance to pick a running mate for Morris. The votes have been counted, and Oscar emerged as the chosen one! Chuck was excited when he heard the news. He even noted how Oscar had the right look for the role, complete with a smart tie. “He very much aligns with Morris’ views on providing a good home, good health, and good food,” said Chuck.
So what does a cat like Oscar do in his free time? Aside from his hobbies of eating and sleeping, he is a big fan of playing with his toys, especially those stuffed with catnip. He enjoys being the master of his own territory, often letting Chuck know when he’s ready for a good snuggle session. “Often times if I walk into the bedroom, Oscar will follow me, jump up on the bed, and then put his front paws up on my chest so I can pick him up,” said his proud owner.
Besides Oscar’s aspirations for office, there’s also a heartwarming community angle. 9Lives has committed to donating $35,000 to the Humane Society of Huron Valley on Election Day to support pets in need. Chuck is thrilled about this contribution. “I’m really excited about being able to help out HSHV with the donation that I know they will put to good use!” he said, knowing how much it will benefit local animals looking for forever homes.
As the campaign unfolds, we can expect Oscar and Morris to advocate fiercely for cat-friendly policies while promoting the joys of adoption. With Oscar’s charming personality and his undeniable bond with Chuck, this campaign is bound to catch the attention of cat lovers far and wide.
If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Oscar is ready to bring some real purr-sonality to the political arena. Let’s keep our paws crossed for his victory, and remember—every vote counts in the race for a happier, furrier world!
