Birmingham Celebrates Epilepsy Warriors at Toasting Hope Fundraiser
This past Friday night, Birmingham was alive with hope and community spirit as nearly 275 supporters gathered for the 16th annual Toasting Hope Tasting Event at the elegant Townsend Hotel. The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with laughter, but underneath it all, there was a powerful mission driving everyone forward. The result? An amazing total of over $152,000 raised to support those impacted by epilepsy.
A Night of Joyous Giving
As the emcee for the evening, I felt truly honored to be part of such a significant gathering. From the moment guests walked in, it was clear that this was a night dedicated not just to fundraising, but to celebrating life and the incredible people living with epilepsy. Attendees enjoyed delicious food and drinks, while also hearing inspiring stories that highlighted the resilience of the epilepsy community.
The funds raised during this wonderful event go toward a variety of vital programs. These include seizure first aid training, which is crucial for keeping individuals safe during a seizure, and Camp Discovery, a summer camp designed to give children with epilepsy a fun and supportive environment where they can connect with peers who understand their journey. Along with these initiatives, the foundation supports several other life-changing activities that aim to enhance the quality of life for those affected by epilepsy.
A Message from Leadership
Andrea Schotthoefer, the new president of the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan, delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated deeply with everyone present. With a glass raised high, she honored the “epilepsy warriors” among us. “To those living with epilepsy today,” she said, “you are the heart of this mission, and we stand with you.” Her words reflected the strength and community that surrounds those facing this condition, reminding everyone that they will never walk their journey alone.
She continued to express gratitude toward those who have faced a diagnosis and reassured them of the open arms ready to support them, emphasizing that the community is always there to lift them up. Importantly, she also took a moment to remember those lost to epilepsy, stating, “your memory fuels our determination.” Such empowering messages foster a sense of unity and purpose and amplify the commitment to fight for a future without the barriers posed by epilepsy.
