So folks, here’s the deal. Some phone chargers made by Baseus have turned out to be downright troublesome. They’re being recalled all over the U.S. That’s nearly 132,000 power banks we’re talking about that are being taken back!
Wondering why? Well, there was a little episode in Farmington Hills some months back. A guy’s charger began hissing and then, guess what? It caught fire! Thankfully the fire was tiny and snuffed out before the fire guys got there, but the Fire Marshal, like a good detective, thought he’d dig deeper. Turns out, the problem came from the lithium-ion battery in these power banks – it seems they can overheat and become a fire hazard.
Going down that rabbit hole, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) – those are the guys keeping you safe from faulty stuff – found 39 reports of these chargers catching fire. The damage caused included some mild burns and around a whopping $20,000 to properties.
The company also picked up 132 accounts of these power banks swelling or bulging. Seriously not what you want from a device you probably keep next to your pillow at night!
There are two models that are in the hot seat here – the Baseus Magnetic Mini Wireless Fast Charge Power Bank 2022, 6000mAh 20W (model no. PPCXM06) and the Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Bank 6000mAh 20W (model no. PPCXW06).
“We really take it as our mission to get faulty products off the street,” said Fire Marshal Baloga. The CPSC even gave him a coin and a certificate for his terrific work.
Now, if you’ve got one of these chargers, stop using it immediately, please! And if you’ve got proof of purchase, you can get a full refund from Baseus.
So keep safe out there, folks, and keep track of those gadgets we’re all so dependent on these days!
