Sponsor Our ArticlesThe American Case Management Association (ACMA) celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024, gathering over 1,800 attendees for a conference filled with education, recognition, and community. Highlights included the launch of the Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund, honoring case management heroes, and valuable research insights. The event showcased ACMA’s commitment to supporting professionals in the healthcare system, with workshops and a concert celebrating the achievements in case management. This milestone marks the ongoing growth and evolution of the case management community.
In what can only be described as a joyous occasion, the American Case Management Association (ACMA) marked its 25th anniversary in 2024, bringing together over 1,800 attendees for a spectacular conference that celebrated the progress and achievements of case management professionals across the country.
This year’s conference, held in a vibrant atmosphere, was centered around education, networking, and some good ol’ entertainment too! Attendees enjoyed three full days of workshops that dove deep into the challenges and innovations within the field. To top off the learning experience, there was even a special concert at the iconic Grand Ole Opry, making it a memorable extravaganza.
As the years go by, so does the community of case management professionals! In 2024, ACMA celebrated a remarkable milestone as its membership has surpassed 20,000 nationwide. This growth underscores the vital role that case managers, social workers, nurses, physicians, and transitions of care professionals play in the healthcare system.
During the conference, ACMA took a moment to recognize outstanding contributions in the field. The prestigious Case Management Hero Award was awarded to three remarkable individuals: Robin Simpson (who was honored posthumously), Liane Sigl, and Kyle Gaylean. Their dedication and commitment to excellence in case management inspire others to strive for greatness.
In celebration of this significant anniversary, the association launched the Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund. This new initiative is designed to assist professionals who are pursuing ACMA’s prestigious Accredited Case Manager Certification. It’s named in honor of Karen Vanaskie, a longstanding champion for excellence in case management. What a great way to ensure that the spirit of excellence continues for future generations!
In collaboration with the Association of Physician Leadership in Care Management, ACMA shared valuable insights from two comprehensive practice research surveys. These included the National Case Management and Transitions of Care Survey and the Physician Leaders in Care Management Survey, which have been collecting crucial data since 2001. This wealth of information emphasizes the ongoing need for professional development and supports the advancement of best practices in the field.
Education and resources are top priorities for ACMA. This year, they introduced a Health Plan library to the Compass Directional Training Tool, which is actively used by over 70% of U.S. hospitals! The library boasts over 30 hours of content spread across more than 65 modules and features 18 courses tailored specifically for case managers and transitions of care professionals.
The excitement continued as ACMA joined forces with the Commission for Case Manager Certification to jointly celebrate National Case Management Week. With the theme “Case Management: Encouraging, Engaging & Empowering,” this week served as a powerful reminder of the significance of case management in the healthcare landscape.
As if that wasn’t enough, ACMA also debuted a new podcast series titled “Care Transitions Today: Case Conversations.” This engaging series presents real-world medical cases while discussing best practices, further enhancing professional development within the field.
Staying ahead of the curve is essential, and for this reason, ACMA has revised its original Transitions of Care (TOC) Standards. These updated TOC 2.0 standards, developed with input from Pfizer, ensure that they adequately address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), underscoring the need for comprehensive approaches in case management.
With a rich history since its founding in 1999 and a firm commitment to providing valuable resources, education, and support for case management and transitions of care professionals, ACMA is poised to continue its role as a leader in the industry. The future arrives with promise, enthusiasm, and a community that thrives on collaboration and innovation. Here’s to another 25 years of development, excellence, and success in case management!
