Bloomfield Hills to Host Hilarious “PUFFS” Parody This October

Funny Theater Performance

Bloomfield Hills Welcomes the Whimsical World of “PUFFS”

If you’re in Bloomfield Hills and happen to be a Harry Potter fan, you’re in for a treat! St. Dunstan’s Theatre Guild is thrilled to present “PUFFS,” running from October 11 to 26. This delightful play is an unlicensed parody that takes a light-hearted look at the magical universe familiar to so many.

What is “PUFFS” All About?

While the beloved trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione take a back seat, the spotlight shines brightly on Wayne, Oliver, and Megan, three students at “a Certain School of Magic and Magic.” Director Kevin Fitzhenry explains that this is where the magic truly begins. “If you are a fan of the books, there are things in it that you are going to recognize and love. If you’re a fan of the movies, there are things that you’re going to recognize and love,” he says, adding that even those who dislike the original series will find humor in the parody.

Witty References and Laugh-Out-Loud Moments

The show is filled with clever references that play off of the entire Harry Potter franchise. “I just love the little tiny references that they make throughout the show,” says Fitzhenry, “Every fan of this world will find something to relate to.” The play’s author, Matt Cox, has crafted it in a way that allows for spontaneity, encouraging the actors to improvise and infuse their own personalities into the performance.

One of the standout features of “PUFFS” is that actor Paul Dorset gets to ad lib an entire scene each night! He plays several characters, including J. Finch, Uncle Dave, and A Fat Friar. “It’s fun when I get to go onstage and improvise,” Dorset shares. “I try to get my fellow cast members to laugh and break character as much as possible!” This aspect of the play means that each performance can feel fresh and unexpected, making it a unique experience to share.

A Mix of Comedy and Heart

It’s important to note that this show contains some adult language and humor, so parental discretion is advised. Fitzhenry recognizes the diverse fans of the original series, saying, “It’s a comedy, yes; it’s a parody, yes. It makes you laugh out loud a lot. But there’s a certain heart to the show as well, and some of those tender moments are just fun to watch as a director.”

Performance Schedule and Tickets

“PUFFS” will be performed at 8 p.m. on October 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26, with 2 p.m. matinees on October 13 and 20. The venue for these magical performances is St. Dunstan’s Theatre, located at 400 Lone Pine in Bloomfield Hills.

Ticket prices range from $20 to $23, with an additional service fee of $3 when purchased online. Tickets can be bought on-site at the theatre’s ticket counter on the day of the show or online. For those looking for more information, the Guild encourages you to reach out via email.
