Brighton Area Schools Ranked Among the Best in Michigan
Brighton, Michigan is buzzing with excitement after recent rankings of the area’s school district put it among the top twenty-five districts in the entire state. With a student body of 5,820 on-campus students, the Brighton Area Schools has received some impressive accolades from Niche, a reputable school ranking service.
Impressive Rankings
Niche ranks school districts and individual schools across the nation based on a combination of federal and state data alongside reviews from parents and students. For the Brighton Area Schools, the numbers speak volumes:

Another local contender, the Hartland Consolidated Schools, made it to the top 50 at #47, while the Dexter Community School District is not far behind at #27. Moreover, the Livingston Educational Service Agency stands at 55th and South Lyon Community Schools ranks 73rd in the state.
Brighton High School’s Success
Among individual schools, Brighton High School also showcases strong rankings, proudly holding the 50th spot in the state, following a 38th place by another ranking service earlier this year.

Superintendent Matt Outlaw has expressed his happiness regarding these rankings, attributing them to a strong support system within the community. He said, “We have a dedicated staff, supportive families and community, and absolutely amazing students.” Outlaw goes on to highlight that their strategic planning is paying off and believes that Brighton’s best days lie ahead.
Positive Feedback from Students
Brighton Area Schools received a glowing “A+” for several categories, including teachers, administration, sports, and clubs & activities. A ratings of “A” was marked in essential areas like academics and resources & facilities. However, not everything was perfect, as the district only received a “C minus” for diversity—understandable considering that Livingston County’s population is predominantly white.
They also have something to brag about from 2018—Brighton High School was recognized by ESPN as one of the top five schools in the U.S. for its unified sports program, which promotes the inclusion of all students.

Comments like, “Some of the best parts of my experience include the involved staff and the true care administrators and principals had for us,” resonate strongly.
