Dearborn Heights Provides Lifeline to Northern Michigan Firefighters

The Tri Town Fire Department, serving parts of three townships near Mio in Oscoda County, recently got a much-needed boost, thanks to a generous donation from the Dearborn Heights Fire Department (DHFD).
From Old to New Beginnings
The star of this heartwarming story? A trusty 1994 Pierce pumper truck, which had been serving the DHFD for quite a while. However, as the department upgraded its fleet with newer and more efficient vehicles, this pumper was put out to pasture, ready for a new chapter. Yet, it wasn’t just any run-of-the-mill vehicle that is collecting dust; it had a lot of life left in it!
At the time of its decommissioning, the truck had nearly zero commercial value, owing to its age. Attempts to sell it so far had fallen flat. But instead of simply letting it sit idle, DHFD Chief Dave Brogan caught wind of the Tri Town Fire Department’s need for a second fire truck and decided to take action.
A Community-focused Decision
After the city council of Dearborn Heights got together and approved the donation, the wheels were set in motion to provide the northern department with a valuable resource. The transition took place on September 12, marking a significant day for both fire departments. The Tri Town Fire Department, despite its challenges, keeps fighting the good fight. With just one other functioning pumper on hand, their fleet mainly consists of two tenders (vehicles used to carry water) and two wildland engines designed specifically for tackling grass and wildfires.
