Berkley Moving Towards a Carnival Ban Due to Persistent Fights

In a recent turn of events, the city of Berkley has moved one step closer to the introduction of a carnival ban within city limits. The ban comes as a reaction to a series of continuous fights that took place during local festivities.

City leaders held a public forum on Monday to discuss the proposed ban amid community pushback. Despite public sentiment, the council proceeded and passed a resolution supporting the ban on carnivals. The resolution also orders city staff to reconsider and put forth any significant ordinance amendments.

This significant move follows a disturbance that led to the premature ending of Berkley Days in May. Similar incidents have also previously interrupted the festival.

The ban, however, triggered a reaction among locals, who urged the city officials not to rush their decision. A local resident commented, “You guys have the power to approve or deny these events, and it seems a bit extreme to ban it outright, right? Because you’re gonna have to revisit it in the future when circumstances might be safer.””

Despite the appeals, it’s evident that corrective action is needed, whether it constitutes a ban or a reinvention of how Berkley Days are conducted. As of now, there is no official announcement about the ban.
