Oakland County businessman sentenced to prison
September 12, 2024, Oakland County, Michigan – It’s jaw-dropping news for the folks of Oakland County. Local businessman, Denny DiCapo, is making the headlines, and not in a good way. This businessman from Rochester Hills, known for making deals, has now been sentenced to prison for stealing cold hard cash in what turned out to be bogus business arrangements.
Denny DiCapo, 64, stood before Judge Kwame Rowe in Oakland County Circuit Court on a typically quiet Monday. He was handed down a sentence of 5 to 20 years for one count of conducting a criminal enterprise. In addition, DiCapo received a concurrent sentence of 1 to 5 years for six counts of larceny by conversion. In total, seven victims were left without $26,000 due to DiCapo’s fraudulent schemes. Quite a shocker, folks!
In a plea deal hashed out last year, DiCapo agreed to pay $5,000 in restitution at the time of the plea. He further agreed to pay the remaining $21,000 over an 11-month delayed sentence. However, the deal went south when he failed to pay the total restitution.
It’s noteworthy that DiCapo’s corporations, Biz Capital Brokerage, Inc. and Energy Acquisition Specialist, Inc., were tools in his fraudulent schemes. DiCapo befriended unsuspecting folks with the promise of refundable good-faith deposits to purchase businesses. But when the deals sunk, DiCapo pocketed the money. And here’s the real kicker – he’s had a history of other serious charges. This includes false pretenses, intent to pass a false title, and even failure to pay child support. His last prison discharge was in 2015. So this isn’t his first time being handed a prison jumpsuit.
But it doesn’t end there for DiCapo. Apart from the prison sentence, he’s still required to pay off the restitution. On top of that, he’s also been ordered to settle standard fines and costs.
Despite his 72 days jail credit, it looks like DiCapo will be off the streets for quite a while. No doubt, this sentencing has left many here in Oakland County in shock and disbelief. To say it’s disappointing how trust has been abused would be an understatement. Let’s hope this serves as a clear reminder to folks to tread carefully when venturing into business deals.
