Exciting Changes Coming to Novi Road!
Novi, MI – Big things are on the horizon for Novi Road, and residents of both Novi and Northville will want to pay attention! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 23, when the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) will host a public meeting about the planned construction set to kick off in 2025. This is your chance to learn all about the project and voice any questions or concerns you might have.
What’s the Plan?
The meeting will take place at Hillside Middle School, located at 775 North Center Street in Northville, from 4:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.. It will be an open-house format, so there won’t be a formal presentation—just come in, grab some information, and chat with RCOC staff members who will be on hand to answer your questions.
About the Project
The construction project, which is expected to cost around $6.7 million, will primarily be funded by federal dollars with additional support coming from matching contributions from RCOC, Novi, Northville, and the Oakland County general government through the Tri-Party Program. The project is divided into two phases and is anticipated to begin in 2025 and wrap up in 2026.
Phase 1: The Curvy Section
Phase 1 will focus on reconstructing the curve on Novi Road between 8 Mile Road and Allen Road/River Rouge. This phase is slated to begin in the fall of 2025. During this time, that segment of Novi Road will close to through traffic, meaning drivers will need to find alternative routes. The detour will take you from 8 Mile Road to Meadowbrook Road, then to 9 Mile Road, and back to Novi Road, and vice versa.
Phase 2: Major Work Ahead
Moving on to Phase 2, which will see the bulk of the construction taking place in 2026. During this phase, Novi Road between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads will be closed to northbound traffic but will remain open to southbound traffic. This adjustment is in response to a request from the City of Novi to ensure emergency services can still access the area when needed. Additional details, including specific start dates, will be announced closer to the date.
Traffic & Safety
It’s important to note that this section of Novi Road sees approximately 13,700 vehicles daily. With that kind of traffic, it’s crucial for residents and commuters to stay informed about the project to better plan their travels in and around the area. Keeping these roads safe and accessible is a top priority!
